"Suddenly there was a great burst of light through the Darkness.
The light spread out and where it touched the Darkness the Darkness disappeared.
The light spread until the patch of Dark Thing had vanished,
and there was only a gentle shining,
and through the shining came the stars, clear and pure."
-- Madeleine L'Engle, "A Wrinkle In Time"
You honestly wouldn't believe me if I told you about this picture, but I'll tell you anyway.
We were at some friends' house in Englewood/Littleton area. We were all sitting in the back yard, hanging out, the kids playing. All of a sudden, I noticed that the sky was really funky. It's the best word I can use to describe it. It ALMOST had the feeling of tornado sky - those of you in the mid-west know what I'm talking about...that odd looking sky just before the sirens break loose.
Anyway, I grabbed my camera and ran out front, where I had a great view of the full sky.
It looked like the sky was pinched...all the clouds and the rays from the sun were pointed to one spot on the horizon. I quickly snapped off several shots, and then remembered an old trick from when I was a kid that had produced some cool effects: I put my sunglasses over the lens and shot a few more. This was a sunglasses shot. I might post one of the other ones later, but they just didn't do the colors justice like this shot did.
It truly was this blue and purple and brilliant.
It wasn't until MUCH later that I ran across this shot - I am WAY behind on cataloging all my stuff - but I'm glad I reacquainted myself with it. It's one of those times that the picture really did capture the essence of the moment.
Comments and constructive criticism are very welcome, especially in how to present a shot like this, framing, etc.
Nice - Wrinkle in Time ... interesting ... I think I like it, though it's not the way I might have went (you did that just for me, no?)
At any rate, good shot, nice contrasts, almost foreboading of white light breaking through the darkness - or something like that (not trying to be cliche, really I'm not). I think perhaps using a color filter could have added some additional punch, but sometimes you have to take the shot. Overall, well done my friend.

Thanks, Ken...I went through about 4 names before I decided on that one...the quote sealed the deal for me, since it seemed to fit so well. Plus, I'm getting ready to re-read it, so it's fresh in my mind.
